Finally we had an A grade race in its own right. A battle between Shane Stiles, Kane Walker, Daryl Anderson and Pete Finlayson looked on paper to be an enthralling contest. Roland Elstrom and Pete Whelan were thrown into the mix as it was thought they could make it up the hill with the others. What appeared on paper to be an even contest was soon torn to bits by the usual race wrecker, Shane Stiles.

Warragul Cycling Club’s team’s race again proved a hit at the weekend.

To liven up the racing on Saturday someone decided to move the finish line. They moved it to the top of the Shady Creek hill. The 1.6km climb to finish and 30+ degree temperatures at the end of the race made it an unforgiving day for all.

Thirty nine riders raced over 5 grades in nearly perfect conditions on the Darnum Circuit on Saturday. The highlight of the day was another first time winner in E grade -the girls are racking up the wins.

A Grade Shane Stiles, C Grade George Tambassis, D grade Terry Kelly: a boring sameness about the winners this week with the exception of first time E grade winner Michelle Scurr.
A and B grade again combined which generally means a race of ludicrously mixed tempo. The B graders don’t want to exert themselves too much as they know the A graders can drop them any time. On Saturday it was clear early on that the A graders didn’t want to do much at all either.

The club bagged 16 medals during the weekend’s Victorian Masters Track Championships at DISC.

A record 46 riders participated in 5 separate scratch races on Saturday. Cycling continues to grow in popularity in the Warragul District and with the implementation of a women’s only grade the club continues to expand opportunities for cyclists who would like to have a race.
