Riders Brave Cold and Wet Start

24/01/2009

2009’s third race was down on numbers due to the long weekend and saw a small group of riders brave the cold drizzle prior to racing getting underway.  Due to the numbers, the race was combined into an A/B group consisting of Thomas Sander, Shane Stiles, Paul Yeatman, Callan Barker and Simon Baxter.

Everyone was a tad chilly riding down the hill along Nilma North Road but soon warmed up as the climb began.  The first lap was ridden at an easy pace, but too hard for Yeatman who pulled out claiming no energy.  Lap two saw Sander ride away up the Nilma Shady Ck road hill.  At the end of lap two it was Sander by 50m, ahead of Stiles with Barker another 50m down. Last across was Baxter 20 metres in arrears.

The final lap hotted up the pace with Stiles bridging the gap to Sander.  The two riders rode well to put in quite a bit of time into Barker and Baxter.  Stiles came across the line in classic winner’s pose with Sander a few seconds down.  In a surprise finish, Baxter finished around half a minute ahead of Barker.
